DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC)-People gathered in Davenport Friday night to remember those who have passed. The Genesis Remembrance Tree in Davenport was lit to celebrate the memories of loved ones and focus attention on the continuing need for access to quality hospice care.
This will be the 13th annual lighting of the Remembrance Tree. It is located in Bechtel Park at the intersection of River Drive and Iowa Street.
“This is a fantastic night for the foundation, but more so for the community and all of those individuals that have been served by hospice through the year,” said Missy Gowey, Executive Director of the Genesis Foundation. “We take this time to step back and reflect on those individuals that we’ve lost perhaps this last year or previous years. Just to have the time to remember them, and then talk about the holidays a little bit. It’s a particularly difficult time for some, perhaps it’s the first holiday that you’ve been without your loved one”
Individual “light” sponsors are invited to make a donation of $10 in memory of loved ones. All proceeds will benefit Genesis Hospice Care. Since 2004, the Genesis Remembrance Trees have honored more than 5,500 individuals and raised more than $30,000 for hospice care at Genesis.
