ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (KWQC) – A Veterans Day tradition was held on the Rock Island Arsenal Fri., Nov. 11, 2016. People gathered at the Rock Island National Cemetery flagpole to honor past and present service members.
Those in attendance, like veteran Jimmy Vrven, say it’s a special day for everyone who served.
“It should be very important for the freedom that we have, with a lot of countries don’t have the freedom we’ve got and it shows respect for people who are buried here for what they’ve done — serve our country for us,” he said.
The ceremony also included wreath-laying and the playing of Taps.
