CLINTON COUNTY, Iowa (KWQC) — Despite his brush with limited vision, Stan Dierks has a keen eye for detail. The Clinton County artist specializes in painting birds from the Midwest.
There was a time he wondered if his painting days were over. The seventy six year old was totally blind in his right eye. Following a number of surgeries, Stan’s eyesight improved. Painting is a form of therapy.
He also has diabetes, and eight years ago had back surgery following a nasty fall from a ladder. However, you can’t keep a good man down.
This retired optician is a self- taught artist. He paints blue jays, sparrows, a great horned owl, and canvas back ducks. Much of his inspiration comes from the farm where he lives in Clinton County.
An acrylic artist. Dierks is also an accomplished wood carver. Some of his art is on loan to the Clinton County Conservation Board.
Stan The Man. He enjoys his “brush with birds.”
