DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) – Stores like Walmart, Target, Best Buy and other retail giants continue to open their doors early for Black Friday. As early as 3 p.m. on Thanksgiving for JC Penney shoppers.
In order to prepare for the crowds of holiday customers, some stores hire on some extra help. The National Retail Federation predicted retailers would hire on between 640,000-690,000 seasonal employees this holiday season.
During the holiday season General Manager of JC Penney at NorthPark Mall in Davenport, Suzanne Vos, says they typically hire around 100 additional employees around this time of the year.
“We absolutely have to have that holiday help,” said Vos. “Alot of people come on just for an extra job [or] extra Christmas money.”
But the General Manager says it’s not just the store itself that needs additional help.
“That entails sales associates as well as people to process the truck, people to help with the signing, even salon associates. So, we really ramp up this time of year,” said Vos.
At JC Penney, the extra employees start around the end of October and work for about two months. Vos says their help is crucial during the holiday season.
Currently, Vos says they have hired around 75 seasonal employees and are still looking for about 25 more people. If you would like to become and holiday worker all you have to do is apply online.
The General Manager says this Thanksgiving and Black Friday they are expecting shoppers to be lining up and the typical crowds looking to score deals.
