BETTENDORF, Iowa (KWQC) – The night before Thanksgiving can be a hectic one for last minute shoppers. But some are putting the chaos aside to remember all the fun and family the holiday brings.
“I’m looking most forward to just eating, turkey and mashed potatoes and gravy and being together with my family,” said Marisa McClain in the middle of a busy HyVee.
She and her family are making the traditional trip to grandmas tomorrow.
“Always at my mom’s,” McClain said of Thanksgiving day.
She and her daughters are looking forward to reconnecting with family and having some fun in the kitchen.
“My sister-in-law and my step sister and I are usually in helping,” McClain said of her mother’s kitchen Thanksgiving Day. “My brother we bring in to mash some potatoes usually for us, so a lot of people sitting around helping.”
Another shopper is ready for the meaning of the holiday – giving thanks. Shopper Tim Zaruba said he’s ready for the seasonal spirit Thanksgiving brings.
“A time of giving and being thankful for friends, family things that are going on in life,” Zaruba said with a cart full of groceries. “It helps me, you know, perk up my spirits a little bit.”
So as the last groceries are bagged, shoppers say they’re ready for their thanksgiving traditions.
“Eat dinner, watch football and possibly catch a movie,” Zaruba said.
And they’re ready for a much needed break.
“I think it gets people in the holiday spirit and everybody gets in a good mood and it’s just kind of nice to see family and relax and step away from work and all the stress in your life and just be thankful for what you have,” shopper Emily Springer said as she headed out of the store.
