UPDATE: The man accused of hitting a newspaper carrier with a vehicle, Rodolfo Solis, was released after payment of a $5,000 bond.
Records show the court is appointing an attorney to him. His next court date is scheduled for November 30, 2016 at 8:30 a.m. in magistrate court.
UPDATE: The Quad-City Times has released a statement regarding the victim. Kevin Haslam is a carrier for the Times.
We know how hard our carrier force works, especially during this time of the year. We are heartbroken that this happened. Our primary concern right now is with our carrier. We will continue to monitor the situation.
It happened in the 600 block of E. 4th St. around 3:30 a.m., near the Quad-City Times building.
A car that was westbound in the northernmost lane of 4th Street struck a person that was loading newspapers into a legally parked car.
The victim was taken to Genesis East and later transferred to Iowa City with serious, life-threatening injuries.
The victim is identified as Kevin Haslam, 34, of Davenport.
The driver of the car is identified as Rodolfo Solis, 31, of Davenport.
Solis is charged with OWI, Serious Injury with a Motor Vehicle and Control of Vehicle.
