CLINTON, Iowa (KWQC) – After an unoccupied boat was found yesterday at the 1500 block of 2nd street, police began to search for two young men.

“We got a call last night about 7 o’clock that the boys had been missing and that there was a search party out for them,” says Tami Turner, an aunt to one of the missing men.

Last night, the search was suspended due to darkness. It resumed Sunday morning at daybreak.

Clinton Police, along with Clinton Fire, Camanche Fire, Fulton Fire, Clinton County Emergency Management, Emergency K-9 Operation – Search and Rescue (EKO-SAR), Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and Med Force, were joined by civilians in the search today.

Police used sonar technology to canvass the Mississippi River, focusing on two main areas of interest. Police also used K-9 units to search both land and water.

Through word-of-mouth, community members learned about the search and wanted to help in whatever way they could.

“Friends of the boys, people who don’t know the boys, have come to help,” says Turner.

Over twenty boats turned up to the South Fifth Street boat ramp to help the search. Turner says she is overwhelmed by the support of the community.

“They want to help find them, whether they be still on the island or in the water,” says Turner. “It’s amazing how many people want to help find these young men.”

Police are not yet releasing the names of the missing individuals, out of respect for the family and until they are 100 percent certain who the missing persons are.

“We would like the family’s privacy respected. They are having a very difficult time,” adds Turner. “Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the Clinton Police Department at 563-243-1458 or the Clinton County Crime Stoppers at 1-888-883-8015.
