Multi-vehicle accident causes backup on Hwy. 61 near Mediapolis

DES MOINES COUNTY, Iowa (KWQC) — First responders were called to the scene of a three vehicle accident Monday evening, November 28, 2016. The accident happened around 5:25 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 61 and Pleasant Grove Road.

Sheriff’s officials say a vehicle driven by 72-year-old Louise Mcnamee of Speary, Iowa, attempted to turn around on Highway 61. While turning around Mcnamee failed to see 65-year-old Michael Laughlin of Burlington, Iowa, who was traveling southbound on Highway 61 causing Lauglin to hit her vehicle.

After hitting Mcnamee’s vehicle Laughlin’s vehicle moved across the highway and hit a vehicle driven by 34-year-old Emily Garcias, also of Burlington. Garcias was stopped at the intersection of Pleasant Grove Road and Highway 61 when the accident happened.

Mcnamee was taken to the hospital. Her injuries were considered not life threatening. The other drivers suffered no injuries and were released from the scene.
