Southeast Iowa woman dies after accident in livestock pen

DONNELLSON, Iowa (AP) — A southeast Iowa woman has died after a farm accident inside a livestock pen.

The Daily Gate City ( ) reports Ruth Hoskins died Saturday after she and her husband, John Hoskins, tried to hook a grain wagon to a utility vehicle.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office says John Hoskins was backing the vehicle closer to the grain wagon so Ruth Hoskins could attach the equipment. Authorities say he accidentally pushed the accelerator instead of the brake, causing the vehicle to strike his wife.

Emergency officials performed CPR on the woman before taking her to the Fort Madison Community Hospital, where she later died.
